Our Tree Services We are a full featured tree service company. And middle Tennessee’s most frequently called tree care company. Pruning If you want your home to be surrounded by beautiful, strong, healthy trees, then proper pruning is not an option, it’s a necessity.  You can easily extend the days of your trees by having dead or weak branches removed as well as any limbs that are diseased or insect infested.  In order to prune a tree properly, certain guidelines for pruning must be followed.  Poteet Tree Service firmly adheres to the strict ANSI A300 pruning standards.   To maintain these standards, we are required to be consistent in our tree work performance in order to ensure that it meets every the high standard that has been set for tree work First, it is important to determine why pruning a tree is necessary.  There are four fundamental tree pruning techniques that are acknowledged by the A300 pruning standards. Cleaning Removes broken, dead and/or diseased tree branches. Thinning Lessens the amount and thickness of healthy, living branches on a tree. Raising Allows for higher accessibility underneath the tree. Reducing  Lowers the height of a tree and/or the tree’s spread based on the species of the tree and its                                                                                                    ability to withstand such pruning techniques. There are also several ‘specialty’ pruning techniques that are acceptable under A300: Vista Pruning Cutting back and/or removing branches that are blocking a view. Restoration Helps a tree to recover after it has been topped or somehow damaged by performing selective pruning that will strengthen it form, appearance and structure. Pollarding Reduces the size of a tree by cutting it back and yearly removing any shoots that have grown below the original cuts. Espalier Pruning that trains branches to grow in a flattened manner such as on a trellis. Tree topping is not the same as tree pruning.   It is thought that a tree that has been topped or rounded over will not grow any taller.  This is not true.  Trees have genes that determine their designated height, and cutting off the top of the tree does not change that.  It will, however, cause new stem growth to be over abundant, crowded and weak at the place on the tree where the topping occurred.  Because of this, most of these new stems will die and fall off the tree making the tree a danger to any nearby animals, property, and especially people. Tree topping is a easy and irresponsible way for any unprofessional tree service company to make quick cash.  Any untrained tree worker can perform this task with absolutely no consideration for the hazardous conditions created for the customer, the property, or the health of the tree.  The Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) has specifically deemed it to be an unacceptable pruning practice.  For these reasons, Poteet Tree Service does not and will not top trees. Tree Removal To properly remove trees, you must have tree experts that are knowledgeable in tree climbing and rigging as well as tree physics and biology.  Poteet Tree Service’s tree technicians have 150 hours of training every year and attend the most difficult tree courses that are available in the industry.  Our tree technician’s use the most sophisticated tree climbing and rigging techniques known in the tree industry.  We have employed a certified rope splicer, certified gear inspector and an expert in the field of rigging.  Poteet Tree Service has a tree staff of certified arborists that are the best in tree removal.  Stump Grinding Tree stumps are not very attractive.  They can be dangerous and prevent proper landscaping completion.  It is a good idea to consider having your tree stumps grinded and removed. Some tree companies provide just a stump grinding service and that’s all.  They leave you with a big hole and a big mess to clean up that can cost you big money.  Poteet Tree Service offers much more.  Not only do we grind stumps, we always provide cleanup afterward.  Once we’re done with the entire process, your yard will be prepared for landscape installation or grass planting with no mess.  As a tip, always remember to wait 1-2 years before planting a new tree in place of a stump to ensure proper tree growth.
